Celebrating a New Age in a Space of Innovation
Birthdays often come with a familiar rhythm, messages from loved ones, quiet reflections, maybe a small celebration. This year, however, mine looks completely different. Instead of the usual routine, I find myself seated in a room filled with bright minds, laptops open, ideas flowing, and energy buzzing. I’m spending my birthday at the Cameroon Innovative Health Hackathon, my very first hackathon experience.
And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
A Different Kind of Celebration
There’s something powerful about stepping into a new age while doing something for the very first time. It shifts your perspective. It reminds you that growth doesn’t always come wrapped in comfort, it often comes in challenges, new environments, and unfamiliar territory.
Walking into the hackathon venue, I felt a mix of excitement and curiosity. I was surrounded by people who were not just thinkers, but doers, individuals ready to turn ideas into tangible solutions. In that moment, I realized this wasn’t just an event; it was an opportunity to stretch myself, to learn, and to contribute meaningfully.
Celebrating my birthday in this space made me reflect deeply: what better way to mark a new chapter than by immersing myself in growth?
The Power of First Experiences
There’s always something special about your first time doing anything. It comes with uncertainty, yes, but also with a sense of wonder. This hackathon is my first, and every moment has been a learning experience—from brainstorming ideas to collaborating with a team, to thinking critically under time pressure.
Being part of this environment has reminded me that growth is intentional. You don’t just wake up and become better, you place yourself in rooms that demand more from you. You say yes to opportunities that challenge you. You allow yourself to be a beginner.
And that’s exactly what this experience represents for me.
Building Mommity: Where Health Meets Technology
One of the most exciting parts of this journey has been working with my team to build Mommity. At its core, Mommity is more than just a project—it’s a response to a real need.
We live in a time where the intersection of health and technology is no longer optional—it is essential. Healthcare systems around the world are evolving, and technology is playing a crucial role in improving access, efficiency, and outcomes. From telemedicine to digital health records, innovation is reshaping how care is delivered.
Mommity is our way of contributing to this transformation.
As we collaborate, brainstorm, and refine our idea, I am constantly reminded of the importance of solutions that are not only innovative but also practical and impactful. Health is deeply personal, and technology gives us the tools to make it more accessible and responsive to real-life challenges.
Working on Mommity has shown me that when passion meets purpose, meaningful innovation happens.
The Beauty of Collaboration
Another highlight of this experience has been teamwork. Hackathons are not just about individual brilliance, they are about collective effort. They require you to listen, adapt, share ideas, and build together.
Working with my team has been both inspiring and enlightening. Each person brings a unique perspective, and it’s in the blending of these perspectives that true innovation emerges. There’s a certain beauty in watching an idea evolve from a simple conversation into something tangible.
This experience has reinforced an important lesson for me: you don’t have to have all the answers. Sometimes, all you need is the willingness to collaborate and grow together.
A Symbolic Beginning
As I reflect on today, I can’t help but see the symbolism in it all. Starting a new age at a hackathon, an environment centered on problem-solving, creativity, and innovation, feels like more than coincidence.
It feels like a message.
A reminder that the path ahead is one of growth, exploration, and impact. A sign that I am stepping into a season where I will be challenged to think bigger, do more, and become better.
This birthday is not just about adding another year to my life, it’s about stepping into a new mindset.
Looking Ahead
If there’s one thing this experience has taught me, it’s that progress comes from intention. It comes from choosing to be in the right spaces, surrounding yourself with the right people, and committing to continuous learning.
As I begin this new chapter, I am filled with anticipation. Not just for what lies ahead, but for who I am becoming in the process.
I am excited to explore more opportunities at the intersection of health and technology. I am eager to keep building, learning, and contributing. And most importantly, I am ready to embrace the journey with an open mind and a determined spirit.
Final Thoughts
This birthday will always stand out to me, not because of how it was celebrated, but because of what it represents.
Growth.
Courage.
Possibility.
Innovation.
Originality.
Mommity
Spending my birthday at my first hackathon has shown me that sometimes, the best way to celebrate life is to invest in becoming better.
And if today is anything to go by, then I truly believe that more progress, more impact, and more meaningful experiences are on the way.
